Overview

Own the end-to-end cryptographic key provisioning process for every ECU across all vehicle programs. You will define secure provisioning workflows, collaborate with cross-functional teams spanning security architecture, manufacturing, and quality, and ensure compliance with industry standards. This role uniquely blends automotive engineering, cryptographic security, and manufacturing operations to safeguard vehicle cybersecurity. You will directly shape the security posture of millions of vehicles on the road.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Design and document the key provisioning process for ECUs, from initial key generation to final injection, ensuring alignment with security architecture.
  • 2Coordinate with manufacturing engineering to integrate provisioning steps into assembly lines, validating that each station meets HSM and PKI requirements.
  • 3Develop and maintain risk assessment frameworks for provisioning failures, including incident response procedures for key compromise or loss.
  • 4Drive compliance with ISO 21434 and SOTIF by auditing provisioning operations and implementing corrective actions.
  • 5Lead cross-functional reviews with security, hardware, and production teams to resolve provisioning bottlenecks or design gaps.
  • 6Own the change management process for provisioning updates, ensuring traceability and minimal disruption to vehicle production.
  • 7Create and deliver training materials for production staff on secure key handling and provisioning equipment operation.
  • 8Monitor provisioning telemetry to detect anomalies and proactively adjust parameters to maintain 99.9% yield rates.

Requirements8

  • 15+ years in cybersecurity, with at least 2 years focused on automotive or embedded systems key management.
  • 2Hands-on experience with PKI, HSM, and key injection systems such as Siemens or Thales.
  • 3Strong understanding of ISO 21434, ISO 27001, and NIST SP 800-57.
  • 4Proficiency in Python or C++ for scripting and automation of provisioning processes.
  • 5Experience with AUTOSAR and Secure Hardware Extensions (SHE) for ECU security.
  • 6Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; Master's preferred.
  • 7Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams and assembly line integration layouts.
  • 8Excellent communication skills to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
