Overview
Operate overhead cranes and manage material flow for structural steel fabrication at North Shore Steel in Houston. You will support Machining Operators by loading, unloading, and staging materials, verifying tags and heat numbers, and coordinating workflow across a 65-year-old metals service center. What You'll Do9
- 1Inspect pendulum control units, wire ropes, and accessory equipment daily for safety and functionality.
- 2Report equipment deficiencies, unusual noises, or operational difficulties immediately to management.
- 3Identify material for production by verifying correct tag and heat numbers, determining weight, and selecting the appropriate crane capacity.
- 4Assist or direct riggers in securing material on the crane before movement.
- 5Load, unload, stage, and move raw materials and finished products safely throughout the work area.
- 6Monitor activity and co-worker positions to ensure safe movement, advising all personnel before moving material with the overhead crane.
- 7Support stock checks and physical inventory counts as directed.
- 8Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including routine equipment cleaning and basic preventive maintenance.
- 9Attend all training and safety meetings, following company policies and reporting potential risks.
Requirements8
- 11+ years manufacturing, fabrication, warehouse, construction, or industrial experience preferred.
- 2Overhead crane, forklift, or material handling equipment experience is a plus.
- 3Strong commitment to workplace safety with a vigilant approach to identifying hazards.
- 4Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- 5Basic math and measurement skills, including reading a tape measure accurately.
- 6Strong attention to detail and quality in material handling and production support.
- 7Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic for night shifts (6:00 pm to 5:30 am).
- 8Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and stand for extended periods, with frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.
