Construction Administrator Job at HMC Architects in Sacramento, CA
Overview
You will own the construction phase for medium- to large-scale projects, ensuring they match design intent from contract award to closeout. As HMC's on-site representative, you'll manage RFIs, submittals, and field issues while coordinating with clients, consultants, and contractors. You'll join an employee-owned firm where you become an owner after one year, with a hybrid schedule (remote Mondays and Fridays, in-office Tuesdays through Thursdays). This role offers direct impact on healthcare, education, and civic projects while working under experienced leadership.
What You'll Do8
- 1Manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and change documentation during bidding and construction, ensuring compliance with contract documents.
- 2Conduct field observations to document non-compliance, construction changes, and potential defects, tracking issues to resolution.
- 3Drive construction progress by reviewing pay applications, cost estimates, and change orders, assisting with value analysis and CPM scheduling.
- 4Coordinate architectural documents with consultant drawings and specifications, applying building code concepts including accessibility, life safety, and egress.
- 5Lead client communication during construction, maintaining strong follow-through and serving as primary contact alongside the PIC.
- 6Review documents for quality and constructability before bidding, identifying issues early to prevent field problems.
- 7Support project closeout by managing punch lists, as-builts, and closeout documentation, ensuring final deliverables meet standards.
- 8Mentor junior staff and coordinate work assignments, while improving CA procedures and logs for efficiency and risk management.
Requirements8
- 17+ years of experience in architecture or construction, equivalent to a Project Manager level.
- 2Licensed Architect preferred with California license a plus.
- 3Strong understanding of construction administration processes and documentation.
- 4Knowledge of building codes and regulations, including accessibility and life safety.
- 5Experience with submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs review.
- 6Proficiency with documentation systems and office practice standards.
- 7Ability to write and edit specifications and professional correspondence.
- 8Familiarity with CPM scheduling and cost estimating processes.
