Complex Claims Director, Excess Casualty & Litigation
Overview
You will own the full lifecycle of Excess Casualty claims, handling multimillion-dollar cases that include multi-vehicle accidents, plant explosions, and class action injuries. As a Complex Claims Director at AIG, you direct litigation strategy, negotiate settlements with elite plaintiff attorneys, and present large-value recommendations to senior management. What You'll Do10
- 1Investigate and evaluate 3rd party Commercial General Liability and auto claims, determining coverage scope and extent.
- 2Direct litigation strategy, including selecting and managing defense counsel, attending mediations, and appearing at trials.
- 3Negotiate multimillion-dollar settlements with top plaintiff attorneys, using ADR and alternative dispute resolution methods.
- 4Build investigation strategies that identify critical issues affecting liability, causation, and damages, while assessing risk transfer and contribution opportunities.
- 5Communicate with insureds, brokers, and underwriters to provide guidance and manage expectations.
- 6Document exposure evaluation, thought process, and resolution strategy for each claim.
- 7Present claim disposition recommendations to senior management and obtain authority for settlements.
- 8Control litigation budgets by establishing clear ground rules with counsel and vendors.
- 9Utilize ADR appropriately and effectively to resolve claims.
- 10Maintain financial control of expenses and strategy through discussions with counsel and vendors.
Requirements8
- 18+ years of Commercial or Industry claims experience, with a preference for Excess Casualty.
- 2Property and Casualty licenses required, obtainable within 6 months.
- 3Advanced experience in litigation claims management, including ADR and mediation processes.
- 4Strong negotiation skills and ability to handle high-stakes settlements.
- 5Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- 6Experience attending and controlling cases from pre-suit through post-trial at mediations and settlement conferences.
- 7Motivated individuals interested in upward mobility and career growth.
- 8Ability to work in a hybrid environment, primarily in-office at AIG locations such as New York, Jersey City, Boston, or Chicago.
