Overview

As a Senior Claims Specialist, you own a portfolio of moderately complex to complex commercial property and casualty claims, making decisions on liability and compensability, evaluating losses, and negotiating settlements. You operate within a Claims Team using latest technology, and you also mentor junior team members, assist with assigning claims, and provide technical direction. Your work directly impacts client outcomes and company profitability. This hybrid role requires in-office presence 2 days per month if within 50 miles of select offices.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Plan and conduct investigations, interviewing insureds, witnesses, and claimants, collecting and evaluating documentation, securing evidence, and preserving chain-of-custody.
  • 2Determine coverage, liability, and compensability, and set reserve amounts, adjusting as needed.
  • 3Engage independent adjusters, cause and origin experts, and independent medical examiners when necessary.
  • 4Refer claims to subrogation group or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate.
  • 5Negotiate settlements within authority limits, assessing actual damages and managing claim costs.
  • 6Coordinate litigation activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective resolution, and attend trials as company representative.
  • 7Act as senior technical expert, assisting team members with escalated issues and mentoring new hires.
  • 8Participate in Quality Review, Suit Committees, Roundtables, Arbitrations, Mediations, field investigations, and closed file reviews.

Requirements6

  • 13-5 years of directly related work experience in claims handling, typically acquired through a bachelor's degree or equivalent training.
  • 2Advanced knowledge of claims case handling practices, legal liability, general insurance policy coverage, and state tort laws.
  • 3Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate and negotiate with customers and conduct investigations.
  • 4Leadership ability and demonstrated time management skills to delegate work and organize resources effectively.
  • 5Required to obtain and maintain all applicable licenses.
  • 6Proficiency with claims management software and digital tools.
