Overview
You will own the daily cash operations for Malcolm X College, processing tuition payments and managing student accounts for a diverse student body. You will work with PeopleSoft and other accounting software to balance cash, prepare bank deposits, and resolve account discrepancies. This role supports the Business Office and contributes to the college's mission of accessible education. You will interact directly with students, ensuring their financial concerns are addressed with empathy and efficiency.
What You'll Do8
- 1Process tuition payments and other bills at the cash terminal, ensuring accuracy and speed.
- 2Balance daily cash transactions and prepare bank deposits for armored car pickup.
- 3Prepare daily cash reports and log sheets for accounts payable, using Excel.
- 4Match invoices to purchase orders and request updates as needed in PeopleSoft.
- 5Assist students with account inquiries, resolving issues related to registration and third-party billing.
- 6Process registration transactions and support student registration activities, including payment plans.
- 7Review vendor accounts and contact vendors for outstanding invoices and order updates.
- 8Assist with data preparation for financial reports and audit trails.
Requirements8
- 1Associate's degree with 2+ years of cash handling and accurate cash balancing experience.
- 2Knowledge of basic accounting principles and auditing terminology.
- 3Ability to prepare and maintain accounting records and write simple financial statements.
- 4Experience with accounting software such as PeopleSoft or Ellucian Banner.
- 5Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for daily reporting and reconciliation.
- 6Strong verbal and written communication skills for student and vendor interactions.
- 7Ability to supervise student assistants in the business office.
- 8Basic computer skills, including Windows and MS Office.
