Civil Engineering Intern, Structures | Orlando
Overview
You will own structural design support and documentation from concept to construction at AVCON's Orlando office. Working under senior engineers, you will produce calculation packages, quantity take-offs, and CAD models for aviation, transportation, and development projects. This part-time internship pairs immediate project exposure with structured mentorship to build your career in structural engineering. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines. This role differs because you will contribute to real deliverables from week one, not just shadow.
What You'll Do6
- 1Produce engineering calculations, quantities, and cost estimates for structural components using AutoCAD and MS Excel.
- 2Develop and maintain project documentation from design through construction, including drawing sets and specification reviews.
- 3Perform code research and application of IBC and ASCE standards to assigned structural tasks.
- 4Coordinate with design teams to resolve conflicts and ensure document accuracy across Revit and AutoCAD models.
- 5Support site visits to collect field data and verify as-built conditions for structural retrofits.
- 6Draft meeting minutes and track action items for project progress updates.
Requirements7
- 1Current Bachelor's or Master's student majoring in Civil Engineering.
- 2Third-year or higher standing with an advanced academic record.
- 3Familiarity with MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel.
- 4Exposure to AutoCAD and related drafting software.
- 5Relevant experience demonstrating leadership, initiative, and teamwork.
- 6Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- 7Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred for final-year and Master's students.
