Child Watch Staff, YMCA Childcare & Supervision
Overview
You own the Child Watch room at the Hockomock Area YMCA, creating a safe and joyful space for children aged 2 months to 10 years. You work with a supportive team, reporting to the Child Watch Supervisor, and provide peace of mind to parents while they use the facility. This role stands out with a free YMCA membership, a set schedule, and 3 hours of free Child Watch services for your own children.
What You'll Do8
- 1Create a friendly, inviting, and supportive environment for children in the Child Watch program.
- 2Maintain a clean and safe environment at all times, proactively redirecting children to prevent incidents.
- 3Assist children with the separation process during drop-off and help them adjust to the room.
- 4Lead developmentally appropriate group activities such as reading, arts and crafts, and block play.
- 5Own opening and closing procedures for assigned shifts, including sign-in and sign-out logs.
- 6Follow all Child Watch room policies and coordinate coverage with other staff when unavailable.
- 7Attend staff meetings and required trainings as scheduled, including CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days.
- 8Handle administrative tasks like managing attendance records and parent communications.
Requirements7
- 115+ years of age minimum
- 2CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment
- 3Basic knowledge of child supervision techniques
- 4Prior experience working with children (preferred)
- 5Ability to respond effectively to critical situations with calm and care
- 6Strong verbal communication skills for interacting with children, parents, and colleagues
- 7Ability to engage a diverse group of children and parents with warmth and respect
