Chief Legal Counsel - Ohio State Department of Youth Services

Strategic legal leader overseeing legal services and compliance for Ohio's Youth Services division. This role provides high-level counsel to top executives while ensuring all youth-related operations meet constitutional and ethical standards. What You'll Do11
- 1Serve as primary legal advisor to the Director guiding enterprise legal strategy
- 2Provide executive counsel on legal ethical and operational matters
- 3Act as external liaison with Attorney General juvenile courts prosecutors and law enforcement
- 4Oversee litigation across federal state and local courts
- 5Design legal policies aligned with regulatory oversight requirements
- 6Facilitate compliance with Ohio Ethics Laws and liaise with Ethics Commission
- 7Manage juvenile justice research initiatives
- 8Ensure constitutional integrity in youth sentencing and record management
- 9Direct public records request handling and documentation
- 10Oversee agency-wide records management and retention systems
- 11Lead post-hire mandatory training at Correctional Training Academy
Requirements10
- 1Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code
- 25+ years building ETL pipelines with Spark and Airflow
- 3Experience with AWS Certified solutions
- 4Proven track record leading legal teams in public sector
- 5Background check clearance including BCI and FBI results
- 6Understanding of juvenile justice legislation and research methodologies
- 7Commitment to ADA compliance and reasonable accommodations
- 8Demonstrated ability to manage complex compliance programs
- 9Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 10Ability to operate effectively in onsite work environment
