The Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist will own student orientation and mobility programs across elementary middle and high schools in Kansas City Missouri. This full-time contract position runs from August 24th to May 28th offering the chance to make a meaningful impact while traveling across a dynamic district. What You'll Do8
- 1Direct instruction of students with vision loss teaching safe independent travel and orientation strategies
- 2Instruction on daily living skills such as grocery shopping reading Braille and money management
- 3Conduct thorough assessments and contribute to the development of IEPs
- 4Collaborate with educators families and support staff to ensure student success
- 5Maintain student progress reports and follow best practices in O&M instruction
- 6Participate in district-offered orientation sessions and ongoing professional support
- 7District leadership provides substantial orientation and continuous guidance for building student capabilities and confidence
- 8Apply knowledge of assistive technology including Spark and Airflow to enhance learning outcomes
Requirements8
- 15+ years building ETL pipelines with Spark and Airflow
- 2National-level ACVREP certification commonly referred to as COMS
- 3Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired
- 4Proficiency in guiding students using canes guide dogs and urban navigation
- 5Ability to provide clear effective evaluations and individualized support plans
- 6Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- 7Flexibility to travel between multiple schools within the district
- 8Commitment to delivering exceptional service in a fast-paced educational environment
