Carepool Driver - Rideshare Transport
Overview
Own day-to-day passenger transport for Carepool's Medicaid-backed rideshare platform, serving seniors, individuals with disabilities, and children across Minneapolis and rural Minnesota. Your primary role: drive our paratransit vans, school buses, and transit buses safely and on time. You'll work with a team of dispatchers and care coordinators who ensure riders get to hospital discharges, therapy, and daily activities. This contract role offers $20-$38 per hour and requires a clean driver's license and first aid certification, with CPR a plus.
What You'll Do8
- 1Drive paratransit vans and school buses on scheduled routes, obeying all traffic laws and DOT regulations.
- 2Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding, securement, and mobility support, preserving their dignity.
- 3Execute emergency stop procedures and follow incident response protocols when transporting passengers.
- 4Communicate route updates and safety instructions to passengers clearly, using multilingual skills if you have them.
- 5Adapt to traffic changes and detours, adjusting routes to maintain on-time pickups and drop-offs.
- 6Inspect vehicles before and after shifts, logging any mechanical issues for maintenance.
- 7Apply defensive driving techniques to respond to hazards and ensure passenger safety.
- 8Support children and seniors with behavior management and care protocols during transit.
Requirements8
- 1Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; commercial driving experience preferred.
- 2First aid certification and familiarity with emergency response procedures; CPR training a plus.
- 31+ years experience driving buses or paratransit vans in urban or rural settings.
- 4Knowledge of local traffic laws, vehicle codes, and safety regulations.
- 5Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) to assist passengers and handle equipment.
- 6Excellent communication skills for interacting with diverse passengers, including seniors and children.
- 7Defensive driving skills with quick reaction to traffic changes and hazards.
- 8Responsible behavior management and adherence to all safety protocols.
