Overview
As Cafe Leader, you will own the full operation of a Blue Bottle cafe in New York City, driving sales, guest satisfaction, and team performance. You will lead a team of 10+ people, fostering a culture of belonging and craft excellence. Working closely with your Area Leader, you will balance strategic initiatives with daily execution, from scheduling and payroll to sustainability goals. This role stands out for its focus on team development and community engagement, all while maintaining the highest standards of coffee hospitality.
What You'll Do9
- 1Build, develop, and inspire a team of 10+ by providing direct feedback, coaching, and mentorship, and conducting regular development check-ins.
- 2Manage day-to-day cafe operations, including ordering, scheduling, banking procedures, and reviewing and approving payroll.
- 3Lead the team to exceed performance metrics in sales, guest satisfaction, and cafe goals, setting a high bar for excellence.
- 4Champion a culture of safety and respect, ensuring every team member feels secure and valued.
- 5Collaborate with other Blue Bottle teams and your Area Leader to create community engagement initiatives and welcome new guests.
- 6Coach and train the team to uphold quality standards for every beverage and food item, acting as the guardian of deliciousness.
- 7Uphold health and food safety guidelines, maintaining compliance across all operations.
- 8Manage the cafe's Profit and Loss statement, aligning with sales and budget targets.
- 9Address team member concerns promptly, fostering a harmonious work environment.
Requirements10
- 12+ years of retail/hospitality experience, preferably in coffee, food, and beverage.
- 22+ years of leadership experience managing a team of 10+ people.
- 3Proven experience in hiring, training, and developing team members.
- 4Completion of Blue Bottle Academy Barista training or willingness to complete within 90 days post-hire.
- 5Existing Food Safety Certification for the state of employment, or obtain within 30 days post-hire.
- 6Strong understanding of profit and loss statements and how to influence them.
- 7Comfort using computer programs, especially Google Drive tools (Sheets, Docs, Calendar).
- 8Flexible schedule availability for mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- 9Ability to smell and taste for quality control, and to listen and speak to serve guests.
- 10Willingness to work in environments with varying temperatures due to food and beverage equipment.
