Cabinet Designer (Microvellum) - Austin, TX
Overview
You will own the full cabinet design lifecycle, from concept to CNC-ready production, for custom residential projects in Austin. You will wield Microvellum to transform architectural plans into precise shop drawings, cut lists, and manufacturing documentation. You will partner with project managers, architects, and production teams to ensure every cabinet fits and functions flawlessly. Your work directly shapes the quality and efficiency of our builds, making you a critical link between design intent and finished spaces.
What You'll Do10
- 1Design custom cabinetry and millwork using Microvellum, creating detailed 3D models and production-ready drawings.
- 2Produce shop drawings, elevations, and layouts that clearly communicate design intent to the shop and field teams.
- 3Generate cut lists and material specifications from Microvellum models, ensuring accuracy and minimal waste.
- 4Develop CNC-ready files and documentation, streamlining the transition from design to fabrication.
- 5Review architectural plans and interior design drawings to catch integration issues early, proactively resolving clashes.
- 6Collaborate with project managers, designers, and field crews to solve design challenges before production starts.
- 7Conduct field measurements and site visits to verify dimensions and ensure perfect fit on installation day.
- 8Revise drawings swiftly based on client selections and design changes, keeping all project files current.
- 9Maintain an organized digital library of project drawings and documentation in Microsoft 365 and Buildertrend.
- 10Refine drafting standards and workflows, reducing errors and boosting throughput across the design team.
Requirements8
- 13+ years of cabinet design experience using Microvellum in a production environment.
- 2Proven ability to design custom residential cabinetry and architectural millwork, including complex built-ins.
- 3Deep understanding of cabinet construction methods, joinery, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- 4Skilled in reading and interpreting architectural and interior design plans, with a sharp eye for detail.
- 5Experience generating production drawings and CNC-ready documentation that fabricators can execute without guesswork.
- 6Strong organizational skills, able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines without sacrificing quality.
- 7Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, comfortable working with cross-functional teams.
- 8Bonus: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Cabinet Vision, or similar design software, but Microvellum is the core tool.
