Overview

You own the daily operations of a branch library in the Lincoln County Public Library System, including staff supervision, programming, and fiscal accountability. You lead a team of library staff, ensure exceptional patron service, and manage community-facing collections and spaces. This role places you at the heart of community engagement, from children's programming to summer learning initiatives. Working onsite in Charlotte, North Carolina, you bring your Master of Library Science or equivalent experience to a dynamic public library setting.

What You'll Do9

  • 1Schedule and direct branch staff, including training, assigning work, and evaluating performance within the first 90 days.
  • 2Develop and implement adult and children's programming, tracking attendance and adjusting offerings based on community needs.
  • 3Balance the money drawer, prepare financial reports, and maintain deposit records to ensure accurate financial tracking.
  • 4Compile monthly statistical reports on library usage and program attendance, using data to drive service improvements.
  • 5Maintain the library facility, grounds, and equipment, coordinating repairs and upkeep with maintenance teams.
  • 6Participate in the Summer Learning Program planning and execution, setting goals and measuring participant outcomes.
  • 7Assist with collection development and weeding, ensuring materials reflect community interests and needs.
  • 8Resolve patron issues, including disputed fines and damaged items, using judgment and library policy.
  • 9Provide direct patron service at the circulation desk, including check-in/out, card registration, and assisting with integrated library systems.

Requirements8

  • 1Baccalaureate degree in a related field, with Master of Library Science preferred.
  • 21-3 years of library experience, including supervisory responsibility.
  • 3Possess or obtain a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • 4Knowledge of ALA best practices and guidelines for library services.
  • 5Skill in training and supervising personnel, with demonstrated decision-making abilities.
  • 6Proficiency with computer, printer, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
  • 7Skill in using integrated library systems and standard office software.
  • 8Ability to lift light to occasionally heavy objects and climb ladders.
