Blood Lab Technician, Day Shift in Houston, TX
Overview
You will own component production at Gulf Coast Blood, processing RBC, platelets, cryoprecipitate AHF, and single donor plasma for 170 hospitals across 26 counties. You join a team of 18 donor centers and 7,000 mobile drives, working under a shift supervisor to ensure FDA and AABB compliance. This day shift role puts you at the center of life-saving operations, with direct impact on patient care.
What You'll Do8
- 1Organize and document component production daily, entering data into the computer system with complete accuracy.
- 2Weigh, balance, and load blood products into the centrifuge, adjusting settings per production intent.
- 3Apply product labels and store all components, ensuring strict adherence to SOPs and cGMP standards.
- 4Secure quarantined components and perform quality control checks on lab equipment as assigned.
- 5Respond to special patient use requests, interpreting and acting on special procedure tags on units.
- 6Manage biohazard waste collection and internal transport per OSHA guidelines.
- 7Prepare and ship non-transfusable products for research, manufacturing, or clinical trials in the RRPL area.
- 8Maintain compliance with OSHA, FDA, AABB, and cGMP to ensure product safety and potency.
Requirements7
- 1High School Diploma or GED
- 21+ years experience in a regulated environment (preferred)
- 3Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 pounds
- 4Capability to push or pull wheeled containers up to 150 pounds
- 5Vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment
- 6Comfort with exposure to blood and biohazard materials, including risk of Hepatitis and HIV
- 7Willingness to work in cold environments and around moving mechanical parts
