Behavior Support Specialist, School Wellness & Restorative Practices
Overview
You will own the in-school suspension program and all disciplinary documentation at Charlotte Lab School, a public charter school serving 500+ students. You will guide students through restorative plans, coach staff on de-escalation, and manage data in Google Sheets and Educators Handbook. Working on a Wellness & Culture team alongside school leadership, you will shape a positive school culture and respond to crises. This role stands out for its focus on restorative justice and trauma-informed care, with training in NCI and CASEL resources.
What You'll Do10
- 1Own the in-school suspension program: supervise students, issue reflection sheets, and track sign-in/out with a binder and Google Sheets.
- 2Guide students through the restorative process, including facilitating student-created restorative plans aligned to infractions.
- 3Lead restorative conversations between students and staff, modeling trauma-informed practices from CASEL and MindUp resources.
- 4Develop behavior plans for students with 3+ referrals in Educators Handbook and coordinate parent-teacher meetings on discipline trends.
- 5Document all behavior incidents, complete disciplinary paperwork, and follow the Discipline checklist after each incident.
- 6Provide one-on-one and group processing sessions to advocate for students, setting personal goals and weekly follow-ups.
- 7Implement social-emotional and mindfulness curricula, teaching individual and group social skills.
- 8De-escalate crisis situations and respond to calls for assistance from staff and students.
- 9Monitor data in Educators Handbook and maintain logs of student progress and behavior.
- 10Assist with Title IX policies, including identification, reporting, and documentation of violations.
Requirements10
- 12+ years of relevant experience in a mental health or human service program, preferably with behaviorally complex children.
- 2High school diploma plus specialized trainings or 2 years of related college coursework.
- 3Training or licensure in restorative practices, trauma-informed practices, or NCI.
- 4Bachelor's degree in Social Services or a related field.
- 5Experience with Google Apps for Education and computer programs.
- 6Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and restorative behavior management principles.
- 7Ability to collect and summarize data using Google Sheets to document student progress.
- 8Effective de-escalation skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- 9Ability to work with adolescents and families in a school setting.
- 10Ability to analyze problems, identify alternatives, and implement recommendations.
