Overview
You will lead a classroom of up to 8 students at Thresholds High School, a therapeutic day school for students ages 16 to 21 with serious mental health needs. You will adapt curriculum to three or more academic levels, align lessons with IEPs, and supervise instruction with a teacher's aide. You will partner with the Young Adult Program treatment team to support students' academic achievement, graduation, and transition goals. This role offers a collaborative environment with training in trauma-informed care and harm reduction, plus no after-school or weekend duties.
What You'll Do8
- 1Develop and deliver individualized lesson plans per state and district guidelines, tailoring content for 3+ academic levels and IEP goals in the first 90 days.
- 2Instruct a class of up to 8 students daily, using therapeutic crisis intervention techniques to maintain a safe and supportive space.
- 3Monitor student progress through grading, standardized tests, and daily documentation of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation.
- 4Collaborate with the Young Adult Program treatment team and home school districts to align educational support with therapeutic goals.
- 5Conduct standardized testing per district policies and state laws, and maintain accurate records for IEP compliance and reporting.
- 6Support each student's transition plan by teaching life skills and coordinating with vocational or post-secondary resources.
- 7Participate in ongoing professional development in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and evidence-based teaching practices.
- 8Supervise students during classroom activities, ensuring safety and engagement, with the assistance of a teacher's aide.
Requirements8
- 1Bachelor's degree in Education or Special Education required; Master's degree preferred.
- 2Current Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) license required.
- 3Previous IEP writing experience preferred.
- 41+ years working with high school students with serious mental health needs.
- 5Strong written communication and attention to detail for documentation and IEPs.
- 6Physical ability to perform therapeutic restraint techniques: lift 40 pounds, kneel, and move quickly.
- 7Willingness to complete provided Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training.
- 8Passion for mental health advocacy and meeting youth where they are.
