Overview
You will own plastic product design and packaging for automotive applications at Tesla, covering 5+ years of design and manufacturing complexity. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams on material-handling systems, fixtures, and automation equipment. Bringing CAD/CAE proficiency and DFM expertise, you will validate designs through FEA and prototyping. This role demands hands-on engineering from concept to production, with direct impact on Tesla's vehicle programs.
What You'll Do6
- 1Design plastic mechanical components and packaging systems for automotive assemblies, using CATIA, Creo/Pro-E, and ANSYS.
- 2Drive DFM and FEA analyses to ensure manufacturing feasibility and structural integrity.
- 3Develop GD&T and tolerance stack-up documentation for critical interfaces.
- 4Own prototype builds and testing cycles, iterating on designs based on real-world performance.
- 5Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to launch automation equipment and material-handling fixtures.
- 6Optimize packaging designs for thin-gauge thermoform processes, reducing cycle time and material waste.
Requirements7
- 15+ years designing plastic components, packaging, or automation equipment in automotive or related industries.
- 2Proficiency with CAD/CAE tools: CATIA, Creo/Pro-E, ANSYS (or equivalent).
- 3Strong understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- 4Hands-on DFM and FEA experience, with demonstrated ability to resolve design-manufacturing conflicts.
- 5Experience with prototyping and testing mechanical components in a production environment.
- 6Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 7Ability to work onsite in San Francisco or at a Tesla facility as required.
