Auto Body Technician, Collision Repair & Paint
Overview
Auto Body Technicians at Thompson's Collision own the full repair cycle from structural alignment to final paint finish. You will work in our new 6,700 sq ft facility in Sunderland, MD, using frame machines, spot welders, and paint booths to restore vehicles to pre-accident condition. What You'll Do10
- 1Assess collision damage and create repair plans using estimating software like CCC ONE
- 2Disassemble and reassemble vehicle panels, including ALUMINUM and high-strength steel components
- 3Weld, bond, and rivet structural parts per OEM spec
- 4Prepare surfaces by sanding, masking, and applying primer
- 5Paint vehicles with waterborne paints, matching color codes and blending panels
- 6Align frames and suspension using laser measuring and frame pullers
- 7Install trim, glass, and electrical components post-repair
- 8Document work with photos and job notes for final quality checks
- 9Drive first 90-day quality metrics: under 0.5% rework
- 10Mentor junior technicians in collision repair methods
Requirements9
- 12+ years of auto body repair experience in a collision shop
- 2I-CAR ProLevel 1 or ASE B2 certification preferred
- 3Hands-on with MIG welding, spot welding, and plastic repair
- 4Knowledge of waterborne paint systems and color matching
- 5Ability to read OEM repair procedures and technical manuals
- 6Proficient with power tools like grinders and sanders
- 7Valid driver's license with clean MVR
- 8Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for 8-hour shifts
- 9Must follow OSHA safety standards and wear PPE
