Associate Attorney, New York Defense Practice
Overview
An associate attorney with 1–3 years of litigation experience will support the firm’s New York defense practice across Downstate New York. You will contribute to discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment. The role emphasizes strong legal research and writing, with exposure to insurance defense, product liability, or appellate work as a plus. This position requires initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team while covering hearings and court appearances throughout Downstate New York.
What You'll Do5
- 1Build and manage all phases of New York defense litigation including discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation
- 2Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and legal memoranda to support defense matters
- 3Conduct legal research and prepare comprehensive reports and analysis for senior attorneys
- 4Participate in court conferences, depositions, and hearings and assist with case management
- 5Maintain accurate time records and client billing in accordance with firm guidelines
Requirements5
- 11–3 years of litigation experience preferably in a law firm setting
- 2Admission to practice in New York with residency in one of New York Citys five boroughs
- 3Strong legal writing and research abilities and professional communication skills
- 4Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines
- 5Federal court or appellate experience is a plus
