Overview
The Ambassador Animal Keeper I will care for Education and Ambassador animal collections at a high level in a live‑experience environment Build birds mammals and reptiles care routines and support guest presentations This is an entry level role that partners with the Education Team to develop animal handling skills and expand the Ambassador program The position offers hands on experience in animal welfare education and outreach at a leading AZA accredited facility
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and maintain clean habitats and supplies for the Education and Ambassador collections to ensure optimal animal health and guest experiences
- 2Monitor environmental parameters and animal welfare continuously and respond to changes to protect the health of the collection
- 3Provide high level care and nutrition to all animals in the Education and Ambassador collections
- 4Record and review health and care data to support excellent animal welfare and program reporting
- 5Support best practices and procedures for institutional and industry standards
- 6Foster wellbeing through enrichment interactions and behaviors for guest presentations and shows
- 7Train and support Education Team members in animal handling skills and safe guest interactions
- 8Participate directly in animal presentations and ambassador shows including off site travel when needed
- 9Collaborate with education staff to ensure consistent animal handling and presentation practices
- 10Contribute to ongoing development of the ambassador program through feedback and implementation of training ideas
Requirements10
- 1Two or four year degree in zoological or biological sciences or equivalent combination of education and hands on experience
- 2Minimum 6 months of internship or paid experience in animal care at a zoological facility
- 3Experience with birds herbivores or small mammals is preferred
- 4Demonstrated knowledge of birds herptiles or small mammals and strong communication skills
- 5Valid Utah driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire
- 6Current negative TB test results or ability to obtain prior to start date
- 7Ability to lift up to 50 lbs swim stand walk climb ladders and operate cleaning chemicals and equipment
- 8Interest in growth and development with time management and skill acquisition
- 9Knowledge of ZIMS software is a plus
- 10Must be able to work outdoors and indoors in varying weather conditions and adhere to safety protocols
