Overview
As the Akamai WAF Security Engineer, you will own the implementation and tuning of Akamai Web Application Firewall protections for enterprise clients. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust security postures across CDN and WAF configurations. This contract role in Atlanta, GA demands deep expertise in Akamai security products and a proactive approach to threat mitigation.

- 1Design and deploy Akamai WAF policies to protect web applications from OWASP Top 10 threats.
- 2Tune WAF rules and rate controls to minimize false positives while maintaining strong security.
- 3Configure Akamai CDN properties and edge security features like bot management and API protection.
- 4Collaborate with development teams to integrate WAF into CI/CD pipelines for automated security testing.
- 5Monitor and analyze WAF logs to identify attack patterns and adjust configurations accordingly.
- 6Lead incident response for web application attacks, performing root cause analysis and implementing fixes.
- 7Document WAF configurations, runbooks, and best practices for internal teams and clients.
- 8Coordinate with Akamai support for advanced troubleshooting and feature enablement.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of experience in web application security, with at least 3 years focusing on Akamai WAF.
- 2Hands-on expertise with Akamai products including WAF, CDN, Bot Manager, and API Acceleration.
- 3Strong knowledge of web technologies: HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, DNS, and OWASP Top 10.
- 4Proven track record of tuning WAF rules and managing false positives in a production environment.
- 5Experience with SIEM tools like Splunk or QRadar for security event monitoring.
- 6Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation of security tasks.
- 7Relevant certifications such as Akamai Certified Professional or CISSP are strongly preferred.
- 8Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
