Akamai WAF Security Engineer
Overview
You will own the rollout of Akamai WAF across enterprise applications, defending a high-traffic platform. Your stack: Akamai, AI/LLM, and API security. You will lead migrations, tune policies, and mentor junior engineers. This contract role stands out for its direct impact on production security and mandatory in-person collaboration.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead onboarding of enterprise applications to Akamai WAF, configuring security policies and profiles.
- 2Migrate existing applications to Akamai WAF with minimal downtime, managing DNS changes and SSL certificates.
- 3Tune Akamai WAF policies to reduce false positives while blocking threats, using Kona Site Defender.
- 4Support AI/LLM workloads by implementing Akamai protections against prompt injection and data exfiltration.
- 5Debug and resolve WAF-related incidents, analyzing logs and adjusting rules with Akamai tools.
- 6Drive adoption of Akamai best practices, documenting configurations and runbooks.
- 7Collaborate with DevOps and security teams to integrate Akamai WAF with CI/CD pipelines.
- 8Mentor junior engineers on Akamai WAF configuration and threat modeling.
Requirements7
- 15+ years hands-on experience with Akamai WAF implementation and management.
- 28+ years in security engineering or a related field.
- 3Proven expertise in Kona Site Defender, Akamai policies, and rule tuning.
- 4Strong understanding of web application vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10).
- 5Experience with AI/LLM security and API protection.
- 6Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or equivalent experience.
- 7Ability to work onsite in NYC or Alpharetta, GA, 3 days a week, including in-person interviews.
