Akamai WAF Security Engineer, Web Application Firewall
Overview
You will lead enterprise application onboarding and migration to Akamai WAF, managing and optimizing WAF policies across a large-scale environment. You will support AI/LLM and API security initiatives, working with cross-functional teams to enhance web application security. This role centers on hands-on technical ownership of security infrastructure, with direct impact on reducing risk and improving response times.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead onboarding of new applications to Akamai WAF, defining security policies and configuring protection rules.
- 2Manage and tune WAF policies to minimize false positives while maintaining strong security posture.
- 3Support AI/LLM and API security initiatives by integrating with Akamai security controls.
- 4Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of security measures.
- 5Monitor WAF traffic and alerts, analyzing and responding to security incidents.
- 6Develop and maintain documentation for WAF configurations and security processes.
- 7Conduct regular security assessments and recommend improvements to WAF configurations.
- 8Drive incident response and post-incident analysis, implementing corrective actions.
Requirements7
- 15+ years implementing and managing Akamai WAF solutions in enterprise environments.
- 2Deep knowledge of web application security concepts, including OWASP Top 10 and API security.
- 3Hands-on experience with Akamai products: Kona Site Defender, Bot Manager, API Accelerator.
- 4Proficiency in Linux, Python or JavaScript for automation and rule tuning.
- 5Strong understanding of network security, SSL/TLS, and HTTP protocols.
- 6Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integration of security testing tools.
- 7Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or Akamai Certified Professional are a plus.
