Administrative Claims Assistant, Risk Management
Overview
You will own the administrative backbone of the Risk Management department at San Diego Unified School District, the second largest district in California. You will directly support the Manager, Insurance and Risk Services by managing claims documentation, tracking case files, and coordinating communication with insurers and internal stakeholders. You will work onsite at the Revere Center, collaborating with a team that handles the district's insurance and liability portfolio. What You'll Do8
- 1Own the day-to-day processing of administrative claims, from intake to resolution, including data entry and file maintenance in the district's claims management system.
- 2Build and maintain organized digital and physical claim files, ensuring all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with district and legal standards.
- 3Coordinate with the Manager, Insurance and Risk Services to prepare reports and summaries on claim status, trends, and outstanding issues.
- 4Communicate directly with claimants, insurance carriers, and legal counsel to gather necessary information and provide status updates, demonstrating professionalism and confidentiality.
- 5Support the risk management team in preparing for hearings, depositions, or settlement meetings by compiling and organizing relevant case materials.
- 6Audit claim-related records to verify completeness and flag discrepancies, reducing errors and ensuring timely processing.
- 7Streamline administrative workflows by identifying bottlenecks and implementing improvements, such as automating routine follow-ups and using Microsoft Excel for data tracking.
- 8Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration by liaising with HR, payroll, and other district offices to resolve claim-related issues efficiently.
Requirements7
- 11+ year of recent related experience in claims, insurance, or administrative support, ideally within an insurance company, public agency, or related industry.
- 2Bachelor's degree in business or public administration from a recognized four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- 3Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for data management and reporting.
- 4Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, capable of managing multiple files and deadlines in a fast-paced office environment.
- 5Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- 6Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- 7Experience in a school district or public sector environment is desirable, but not required.
