Overview

You will own the daily activity experience for 100+ seniors at Gardens Care Senior Living, creating joy and connection through structured programs and spontaneous moments. You will join the Life Enrichment Department, a tight-knit team of three, coordinated by the Life Enrichment Director and supported by nursing and caregiving staff. This role offers creative freedom to design events with Adobe Photoshop for flyers and Spotify playlists for music therapy, and it sets you on a path toward Activity Director certification.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Plan and lead daily activities including arts and crafts, music therapy, games, exercise classes, and group outings, adapting to resident abilities and interests.
  • 2Engage residents during activities to encourage participation, ensuring each person feels included and valued, and provide one-on-one companionship for those who prefer individual attention.
  • 3Organize special events such as holiday parties, birthday celebrations, themed social gatherings, and outings, coordinating details from catering to decorations.
  • 4Maintain activity supplies and equipment, tracking inventory and requesting replacements to ensure programs run without interruption.
  • 5Collaborate with nurses, caregivers, and management to align activities with individual care plans, adjusting approaches for residents with memory loss or physical limitations.
  • 6Document resident participation and feedback in the care system, reporting behavioral or health changes to the care team promptly.
  • 7Drive new program ideas by researching trends in senior engagement, then pilot and refine art therapy or intergenerational activities.
  • 8Facilitate morning stretch and afternoon chair yoga classes, promoting physical wellness and social interaction in a group setting.
  • 9Escort residents on community outings, managing safety and accessibility with wheelchair and walker assistance.
  • 10Support the Life Enrichment Director in monthly calendar planning, ensuring each day offers a balanced mix of physical, social, and creative options.

Requirements9

  • 11+ year experience in activity coordination, recreation therapy, or similar role in senior care or community settings (preferred).
  • 2High school diploma or equivalent; Certified Nursing Assistant or Activity Director credential a plus.
  • 3Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort with tablet technology for activity documentation.
  • 4Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect empathetically with seniors and their families.
  • 5Organizational skills to manage multiple activities daily, prioritizing resident needs and event logistics.
  • 6Creative problem-solving and ability to improvise when plans change, keeping residents engaged and safe.
  • 7Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift up to 25 pounds (supplies, equipment), and assist residents with mobility.
  • 8Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for special events, with regular weekday hours.
  • 9A passion for working with seniors and a commitment to enhancing quality of life through meaningful activity.
