Accounting Lead, SaaS Startup & Monthly Close
Overview
You own the monthly close and build AR and AP from scratch at PointOne, a venture-backed startup reinventing law firm operations with AI-powered timekeeping. Our stack is modern and automated: Xero, Stripe, Postgres, and Excel drive finance. Reporting to the COO, you'll set the close calendar, own cash forecasting, and build documentation for future diligence. This is the first dedicated accounting hire, so you'll shape the function and see your systems scale with Y Combinator and Bessemer backing.
What You'll Do8
- 1Own the monthly close, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and workpapers, compressing the close cycle each month.
- 2Build AR from zero: set invoicing, collections cadence, dunning, aging, credit notes, reserve, and dispute workflows in Stripe and Xero.
- 3Build AP from zero: vendor onboarding, W-9s, approval thresholds, payment runs, expense policy, and 1099s using Bill.com or similar.
- 4Drive the 13-week rolling cash forecast, comparing weekly actuals to forecast with written commentary on variances.
- 5Reconcile all operating accounts in Postgres and Stripe to the GL without manual workarounds.
- 6Document every process as you build it to stay ahead of audit and diligence.
- 7Debug broken integrations between billing systems and the GL, fixing root causes rather than adding manual steps.
- 8Scale the close and reporting as the company grows, reducing time to close by 20% in the first quarter.
Requirements7
- 14+ years in accounting, either in Big 4 audit on technology clients or in-house at a fast-growing SaaS company.
- 2Advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills for modeling, reconciliation, and analysis.
- 3Able to close a month, defend every number, and reconcile a billing system to a GL without flinching.
- 4SQL is a plus, or the appetite to pick it up by month three, because reporting lives in Postgres.
- 5CPA is a plus.
- 6Comfortable moving at high speed and building systems that drive growth decisions.
- 7Extreme ownership: you build processes end to end, no hand-holding.
