Academic Technology Specialist, AV & Classroom Systems
Overview
The Academic Technology and Services Specialist owns the reliable operation and continuous improvement of classroom and lab technology at NWHSU across Bloomington campuses. You will collaborate with faculty, staff, and IT to set standards, policies, and best practices that enhance teaching with technical solutions. This hybrid role blends hands-on support with proactive customer service to deliver dependable academic technology services.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and maintain classroom and lab technology, ensuring smooth operation for events and daily use
- 2Diagnose and resolve software, hardware, and networking issues for University resources in a timely manner
- 3Patch update and configure classroom, conference room, and lab PCs and AV systems
- 4Communicate technical solutions clearly to diverse audiences with strong customer service orientation
- 5Configure upgrades and install multimedia hardware and software for academic spaces
- 6Provide group or one-on-one training for events, academic technology, or multimedia use
- 7Manage and maintain classroom technology and assist with event setup and support
- 8Coordinate with University departments to plan event operations and multimedia support
- 9Demonstrate initiative in researching solutions and staying current with technology
- 10Lift and move equipment up to 30 lbs to support technology needs
Requirements12
- 1High School diploma required
- 2Associates degree or two-year program in computer sciences or related field preferred
- 30-2 years relevant experience required
- 4Knowledge of academic technologies, training, and multimedia in education
- 5Experience with audiovisual equipment including microphones, mixers, video switchers, loudspeakers, projectors
- 6Experience with sound mixing and video switching for live events
- 7Ability to perform under pressure, multitask, and make quick decisions
- 8Knowledge of lighting, sound, video design and terminology preferred
- 9Some knowledge of installed audiovisual systems and integrated multimedia control systems
- 10Knowledge of Microsoft Office, AD, SIS and LMS systems
- 11Experience with Dante, NDI, Stream Deck, and Epson projector management
- 12Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams
