Overview
The Academic Learning Specialist (Student Programs Advisor III) leads direct academic support for 180 PA students at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Reporting to the PA program director, this full‑time role focuses on designing and implementing enrichment programs while ensuring student progress aligns with program benchmarks. The specialist will coordinate strategic study initiatives, mentor learners, and collaborate with faculty to enhance learning outcomes.
What You'll Do11
- 1Design and coordinate programs that support student retention and academic success across the medical school curriculum
- 2Assess individual learning styles and develop personalized academic work plans
- 3Prescribe study strategies and create comprehensive plans for effective performance
- 4Educate faculty and students on learning styles and facilitate workshops on test taking and study skills
- 5Develop and deliver programs focused on critical thinking and time management techniques
- 6Collaborate with tutors to recruit, train, and supervise staff while managing evaluation processes
- 7Implement systems for monitoring student progress and generate statistical reports to improve services
- 8Maintain FERPA‑compliant student records and document all interactions accurately
- 9Serve on the student affairs team and execute additional duties as needed
- 10Lead efforts to integrate clinical and academic support for holistic student development
- 11Oversee recruitment and supervision of academic support personnel
Requirements9
- 1Master’s degree in Education or related field with doctoral preference
- 23-5 years of experience in higher education or medical school administration
- 3Ph.D. in student personnel administration counseling or related discipline preferred
- 4Proven ability to lead student support initiatives and drive academic improvement
- 5Strong knowledge of educational assessment tools and curriculum design principles
- 6Excellent interpersonal skills for working with diverse student populations
- 7Experience with FERPA compliance and record‑keeping best practices
- 8Demonstrated leadership in program development and implementation
