
Z/OS Network Systems Programmer, Mainframe & Legacy Systems
Overview
You will own the network programming for Z/OS environments across a County-wide legacy infrastructure. You will manage IMS, DB2, and ADABAS databases, ensuring uptime and performance for critical systems. You will plan and execute upgrades on a County-established schedule, working onsite in Downey, CA. This contract role offers direct impact on public-sector operations with a 12-month engagement.
What You'll Do7
- 1Install, configure, and maintain Z/OS network subsystems, including VTAM and TCP/IP.
- 2Plan and execute upgrades for IMS, DB2, and ADABAS environments on a County-established schedule.
- 3Monitor database health, resolve performance bottlenecks, and apply fixes to ensure system availability.
- 4Collaborate with application teams to tune DB2 SQL and IMS transactions for optimal response times.
- 5Document configuration changes and maintain runbooks for Z/OS network and database operations.
- 6Debug and resolve abends and system errors across the mainframe stack within the first 90 days.
- 7Coordinate with storage and security teams to align RACF and ACF2 policies with network changes.
Requirements7
- 15+ years as a mainframe systems programmer with hands-on Z/OS experience.
- 25+ years managing IMS and DB2 databases, including upgrade and recovery procedures.
- 33+ years with ADABAS and Natural in a production environment.
- 4Proficiency in JCL, REXX, and Assembler for system automation and maintenance.
- 5Experience with VTAM and TCP/IP configuration on Z/OS.
- 63+ years working in a County or government IT environment, including Livescan requirements.
- 7Ability to pass a background check and work onsite in Downey, CA.
Salary Insight
$80 - $85k per year
