You will own a full docket of workers' compensation defense cases for employers, insurers, and third-party administrators from intake to resolution. What You'll Do10
- 1Solely manage 100+ active workers' compensation cases from first report through hearing and appeal, ensuring aggressive defense and timely resolution.
- 2Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery, and trial briefs; conduct hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and jury trials in GA State Board and superior courts.
- 3Investigate claims and develop evidence-based defense strategies, including medical record analysis and expert witness coordination.
- 4Counsel clients on claim handling, subrogation, return-to-work programs, and compliance with Georgia Workers' Compensation Act.
- 5Negotiate settlements and mediation outcomes, saving clients an average of 25% on indemnity costs.
- 6Direct discovery and motion practice; take and defend 20+ depositions per quarter, including medical and vocational experts.
- 7Review and adjust claim reserves quarterly to ensure accurate financial forecasting.
- 8Mentor junior associates and paralegals on litigation tactics and case management best practices.
- 9Produce client-ready reports on litigation exposure and case budgets, presented in monthly strategy reviews.
- 10Spearhead business development by writing legal articles and presenting at GA Self-Insurers Association events.
Requirements9
- 1Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school with active Georgia Bar admission in good standing.
- 24-6 years of litigation experience, with 2+ years dedicated to workers' compensation defense.
- 3Proven first-chair trial experience, including evidentiary hearings and contested trials before the State Board.
- 4Strong legal writing skills; ability to draft persuasive motions and appellate briefs under tight deadlines.
- 5Experience managing a caseload of 50+ files simultaneously, with excellent organizational skills.
- 6Knowledge of Georgia workers' comp law, including OCGA Title 34 and Board Rules.
- 7High proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management software such as Smart Advocate or Needles.
- 8Demonstrated ability to negotiate settlements and mediate disputes effectively.
- 9Willingness to travel locally to hearings and client sites; flexible schedule for depositions and trials.
