Welder – Container Modification at A-American Container & Trailer Leasing
Overview
We need a skilled Welder to lead our container modification team in Tampa, FL. The ideal candidate will own the fabrication of custom steel structures while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. This role involves interpreting technical drawings and executing precise welding tasks to deliver high-quality shipping containers. You will contribute to year-round operations in a dynamic shop environment. Our position emphasizes hands-on expertise and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do11
- 1Perform MIG and occasional FCAW welding to fabricate and modify steel shipping containers according to customer specifications
- 2Read and interpret shop drawings customer prints and weld symbols to determine cut fit and welding requirements
- 3Use plasma cutters oxy-fuel torches grinders hand tools and power tools to prepare openings for doors windows vents and HVAC penetrations
- 4Cut fit and weld structural steel framing around openings using tube angle and channel to preserve container integrity
- 5Conduct visual quality inspections to verify weld soundness dimensional accuracy and compliance with shop standards
- 6Maintain a clean safe work area by adhering to proper safety procedures PPE requirements and hot work practices
- 7Assist with rigging fitting roll-up and personnel doors installing windows and vents reinforcing walls and roofs and completing other modification tasks
- 8Apply AWS D1.1 structural welding practices and shop quality standards during all fabrication activities
- 9Experience with MIG welding on 14-gauge corten and carbon steel up to 1/4 inch plate without burn-through or excessive distortion
- 10Demonstrate proficiency in blueprint reading weld symbols basic mechanical knowledge and proficiency with hand tools and power tools
- 11Show ability to perform layout fitting cutting rigging and assembly tasks efficiently from prints
Requirements8
- 15+ years building ETL pipelines with Spark and Airflow
- 23-5 seasons experience in fabrication or manufacturing environments
- 3AWS Certified welder certification
- 4CPC Card or equivalent professional credential
- 55+ years working with MIG welding on thin-gauge steel
- 6Strong understanding of blueprint interpretation weld symbols and shop quality standards
- 7Proven track record of modifying shipping containers trailers or other large steel assemblies
- 8Basic mathematical skills for accurate measurements and calculations
