Overview

You will own patient care for urgent care cases at VetExpress Animal Urgent Care in Houston, Texas. You will handle exams, surgeries, lab work, and post-op monitoring using VetExpress protocols. The team includes veterinarians and fellow technicians in a fast-paced urgent care setting. You will directly impact patient outcomes and client education. This contract role offers flexible part-time scheduling and a uniform allowance.

What You'll Do9

  • 1Assist veterinarians in exams, surgeries, and medical procedures during the first 90 days.
  • 2Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • 3Perform lab tests including blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams using Idexx equipment.
  • 4Prepare animals for surgery and monitor vital signs with Cardell monitors.
  • 5Provide post-operative care and track recovery progress.
  • 6Maintain accurate medical records in Avimark and update patient files.
  • 7Educate pet owners on care and answer questions, building trust.
  • 8Sanitize exam rooms, surgical tools, and kennels to meet AAHA standards.
  • 9Restrain animals safely during procedures using low-stress handling techniques.

Requirements9

  • 12+ years experience as a Veterinary Technician in a clinical setting.
  • 2Knowledge of veterinary terminology and procedures.
  • 3Proficiency in animal handling and restraint techniques.
  • 4Familiarity with animal husbandry practices.
  • 5Ability to place catheters and administer medications.
  • 6Experience with X-ray imaging is a plus.
  • 7Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • 8Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-volume urgent care.
  • 9Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
