Ultrasound Technologist, Breast Ultrasound - Abington
Overview
You will perform sonographic exams at Abington Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia, using ultrasound equipment to produce diagnostic images. You will work 32 hours weekly, focusing on breast ultrasound. You will collaborate with radiologists and physicians, manage PACS systems, and mentor junior technologists. This role offers BLS and RDMS certification support, plus tuition reimbursement for growth.
What You'll Do9
- 1Perform sonographic examinations on patients using ultrasound equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, positioning patients and scanning areas for radiologist interpretation.
- 2Adjust equipment settings and assess images for quality, ensuring clear visualization of anatomy and pathology.
- 3Explain procedures to patients and provide education before, during, and after imaging to ensure cooperation and optimal results.
- 4Compile patient history, prior images, and reports, then deliver to radiologists for review following established protocols.
- 5Operate PACS and other software to capture, store, and retrieve images, maintaining accurate patient records for billing and RIS/PACS accuracy.
- 6Maintain ultrasound equipment and exam rooms, performing quality control checks and troubleshooting issues.
- 7Mentor and train less senior ultrasound technologists, sharing best practices and ensuring consistent imaging standards.
- 8Adhere to safety standards, using protective measures to shield patients and staff from unnecessary radiation exposure.
- 9Assist radiologists during interventional procedures, using ultrasound guidance to obtain samples or perform injections.
Requirements7
- 1Graduate of an approved course in medical sonography.
- 26 months to 1 year of experience in breast ultrasound preferred.
- 3Certification by RDMS, RVT, or ARRT (S) required.
- 4Active BLS Certification required.
- 5Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology as related to sonography.
- 6Proficiency with PACS and RIS systems.
- 7Excellent patient communication and care skills.
