What You'll Do10

  • 1Build and file civil lawsuits, prepare legal documents, and advise clients on their rights to achieve favorable outcomes
  • 2Interrogate clients and witnesses, gather evidence, and coordinate with administrative agencies and courts to advance cases
  • 3Represent clients in court, before quasi-judicial bodies, and in administrative proceedings
  • 4Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for clients and the community to ensure informed consent and access to justice
  • 5Engage in outreach and community education to raise awareness of legal rights and LSLA services
  • 6Supervise and coordinate activities of subordinate legal staff, clerical workers, volunteers, or students as needed
  • 7Handle a caseload including major litigation and participate in evening clinics and community programs
  • 8Demonstrate strong client service orientation and proactive problem solving in high-pressure situations
  • 9Travel within Texas counties served by the Houston MLP office to fulfill duties
  • 10Maintain reliable transportation to support mobility for casework across service areas

Requirements8

  • 1Graduate of an accredited Law School and licensed to practice in Texas or eligible for reciprocity
  • 2Prior legal services or public interest experience preferred
  • 3Strong legal writing and oral communication skills
  • 4Demonstrated client service orientation and ability to interview, assess, negotiate, and problem solve
  • 5Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions
  • 6Demonstrated commitment to aggressively pursuing client rights and community impact
  • 7Energetic, motivated, and self-starting
  • 8Bilingual Spanish and English skills preferred
