Special Education Instructional Assistant
Overview
You will support special education students and their IEP goals in Wake County Public School System classrooms. You will work alongside teachers to implement behavior plans, assist with adaptive equipment, and foster independence. This role demands CPI certification and a commitment to confidentiality under FERPA. You will make a direct impact on student success in a supportive school environment.
What You'll Do7
- 1Implement students' IEP goals in daily classroom activities.
- 2Assist teachers with behavioral intervention plans and crisis prevention using CPI techniques.
- 3Prepare instructional materials and maintain a safe, organized classroom.
- 4Support students with adaptive equipment including wheelchairs, hearing aids, and AAC devices.
- 5Facilitate student transitions between classes and activities.
- 6Document student progress and maintain confidential records per FERPA.
- 7Participate in professional development and specialized training as required.
Requirements7
- 1High school diploma or GED required.
- 2CPI certification required (training provided if needed).
- 36+ semester hours in early childhood education or 2+ years of work experience in early childhood settings for Title I schools.
- 4Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- 5Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks.
- 6Experience with students with special needs preferred.
- 7CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
