Software Developer, Distributed Systems & Cloud Infrastructure
Overview
You will own the architecture and evolution of a tier-0 control-plane storage service at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), supporting critical metadata for cloud services across regions. This role sits on a focused team building a strongly consistent, transactional key-value store that underpins OCI's control planes. You will design and operate distributed systems handling high-scale read/write traffic, strict serializability, and global service growth. This is a hands-on technical leadership position where your work directly shapes the reliability and scalability of Oracle Cloud while mentoring engineers and driving major initiatives.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead the design and evolution of foundational cloud infrastructure services managing critical control-plane metadata for large-scale OCI services.
- 2Architect and build highly available, strongly consistent, low-latency distributed systems using Java, C++, and Python, with a focus on correctness and durability.
- 3Drive major technical initiatives from architecture through implementation, safe rollout, and production operations, improving service scalability and performance.
- 4Improve data-plane architecture, transaction processing, caching, throttling, and failure recovery to meet strict performance goals.
- 5Build and operate resilient multi-tenant systems with strong observability, automation, and incident prevention using Kubernetes and Prometheus.
- 6Mentor engineers, raise the engineering bar through design and code reviews, and establish best practices for distributed systems and production readiness.
- 7Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evolve the storage and data models, ensuring safe and consistent access patterns for OCI services.
- 8Debug and resolve complex issues in a globally distributed, multi-tenant environment, ensuring high availability and data consistency.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems or cloud infrastructure services.
- 2Deep expertise in distributed systems concepts such as replication, consistency, and fault tolerance, with hands-on experience in Java or C++.
- 33+ years working with database internals, transaction processing, or storage engines, including multi-version concurrency control and serializability.
- 4Strong understanding of data-plane architecture, including performance isolation, throttling, and capacity planning.
- 5Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized microservices in a production environment.
- 6Proficiency in Python for automation, tooling, or scripting in the context of infrastructure operations.
- 7Track record of mentoring engineers and leading technical design reviews.
- 8Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
