Settlement & Lien Resolution Coordinator, Asbestos Litigation
Overview
Own the final stage of settlement for an asbestos practice at Cooper Hart Leggiero & Whitehead, managing lien resolution, disbursements, and client communication for high-volume cases. Coordinate with attorneys, government agencies, and co-counsel in a collaborative, on-site environment. Bring 2+ years of legal support experience and strong organizational skills; training on asbestos-specific processes is provided.
What You'll Do9
- 1Prepare and track settlement documentation, releases, and client packets, maintaining accurate electronic records in case management systems.
- 2Serve as the primary contact for clients and families, communicating settlement status and required documents with compassion.
- 3Coordinate with accounting on check issuance and resolve payment issues, researching missing clients for outstanding distributions.
- 4Manage Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers' Compensation liens, tracking claims to resolution and negotiating with agencies.
- 5Research state-specific reimbursement rules and review medical records to dispute unrelated charges.
- 6Ensure all conditions are met before releasing client funds, preparing payment requests and releases.
- 7Maintain detailed spreadsheets and case management records to meet strict deadlines.
- 8Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and accounting staff, keeping all stakeholders informed on case progress.
- 9Assist with audit preparation and process improvements as needed.
Requirements9
- 12+ years in legal support, administration, or case management in a high-volume environment.
- 2Excellent written and verbal communication skills for sensitive financial and legal discussions.
- 3Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- 4Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.
- 5Willingness to work full-time on-site in Houston, TX.
- 6Preferred: experience in personal injury, mass torts, or asbestos bankruptcy trust claims.
- 7Preferred: familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, Workers' Compensation liens, or subrogation.
- 8Preferred: knowledge of medical records, billing, or insurance recovery.
- 9Preferred: experience with legal case management software and lien resolution vendors.
