Senior Software Engineer Product Foundations
Overview
Metropolis seeks a Senior Software Engineer to architect and build Metropolis Web Services, the composable platform powering mobility businesses. You will design core services, develop service mesh infrastructure, and create developer tooling while collaborating across teams to enable checkout-free experiences.
What You'll Do11
- 1Design and build core services of Metropolis Web Services to power mobility businesses including IAM and notifications
- 2Develop and maintain service mesh infrastructure for secure communication between microservices at scale
- 3Create developer tooling CI/CD pipelines and platform automation for safe code delivery
- 4Make technical decisions on service boundaries API design and system reliability affecting multiple business lines
- 5Architect high-throughput low-latency systems supporting millions of global transactions
- 6Establish monitoring alerting and reliability practices ensuring 99.99% uptime
- 7Drive architectural discussions and mentor engineers on complex technical implementations
- 8Optimize systems using profiling benchmarking and tuning at hyperscale
- 9Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Application Development Infrastructure and Advanced Technologies groups
- 10Utilize AWS Kubernetes and distributed systems expertise to solve scalability challenges
- 11Contribute to open source projects demonstrating depth in distributed systems
Requirements11
- 18+ years backend engineering experience focusing on distributed systems and platform infrastructure
- 2Expert Java proficiency with JVM performance concurrency and ecosystem tooling knowledge
- 3Production experience with microservices container orchestration Kubernetes and AWS cloud platforms
- 4Strong systems thinking designing large-scale high-availability distributed systems
- 5Observability expertise metrics logging tracing and alerting in high-load environments
- 6Database and data systems knowledge relational databases event streaming Kafka SQS caching strategies and consistency patterns
- 7Familiarity with AI-powered coding tools like Copilot and Claude Code for productivity
- 8Advanced degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field preferred
- 9Scala experience and security compliance for authentication authorization and financial transaction systems
- 10High-growth environment scaling systems through rapid expansion and load increase
- 11Open source contributions or technical blog writing showcasing distributed systems expertise
