Overview
Eccalon seeks a Senior SDET QA Automation Engineer to lead automated testing strategy across web applications and backend services for DoD Intelligence and enterprise programs. You will design and maintain test frameworks integrate quality gates into CI/CD pipelines and ensure reliability in regulated environments. This hands-on role offers broad visibility across the full engineering stack collaborating directly with engineers DevOps and product teams to shift quality left and ship mission critical software with confidence.
What You'll Do14
- 1Build and own automated testing strategy across web applications and backend services supporting DoD Intelligence and enterprise programs
- 2Design and maintain end-to-end UI automation frameworks using Playwright and/or Cypress across multiple web applications
- 3Develop and maintain API and backend test suites using Postman collections and REST Assured validate authentication flows data integrity and service contracts
- 4Write clean maintainable test code in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript enforcing consistent standards through code reviews and shared libraries
- 5Create reusable test utilities fixtures and data factories to reduce test setup overhead and improve suite reliability
- 6Integrate automated test suites into GitLab CI/CD pipelines to enforce quality gates on every pull request and deployment
- 7Configure and maintain synthetic monitoring scripts such as Playwright-based uptime checks for production applications triaging false positives
- 8Define and track test coverage metrics pass rates and flakiness trends reporting quality signals to engineering leadership
- 9Validate REST APIs against specifications testing authentication and authorization flows including OAuth2 SAML OIDC and JIT provisioning patterns
- 10Collaborate with backend engineers to identify testability gaps in service design and recommend interface contracts that support automation
- 11Partner with DevOps software engineering and IT teams to embed testing earlier in the development lifecycle contributing to definition-of-done criteria
- 12Serve as quality subject matter expert mentoring engineers on test best practices automation patterns and tooling selection
- 13Maintain test documentation test plans and traceability matrices satisfying compliance audit and ATO evidence requirements
- 14Evaluate and recommend improvements to the overall QA toolchain and processes as applications and team scale increase
Requirements17
- 15+ years building ETL pipelines with Spark and Airflow
- 23-5 seasons experience in software development engineering in test QA automation or related discipline
- 3Playwright and/or Cypress for end-to-end UI test automation
- 4Strong API testing skills using Postman including collections environments and Newman for CI execution and/or REST Assured
- 5Solid programming skills in JavaScript/TypeScript and/or Python writing production-quality test code
- 6Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines GitHub Actions or Jenkins
- 7Familiarity with AWS services Cognito RDS DynamoDB CloudWatch and how they factor into end-to-end test design
- 8Expertise testing authentication and authorization flows OAuth2 SAML OIDC and MFA
- 9Understanding of HTTP REST JSON and web application architecture
- 10Ability to work independently prioritize across multiple projects and communicate quality risk clearly
- 11Preferred synthetic monitoring and uptime automation Playwright-based health checks Pingdom scripting
- 12Familiarity with NIST 800-171 CMMC or FedRAMP testing and traceability requirements
- 13Experience testing applications hosted on Azure GCC High or AWS GovCloud environments
- 14Background in performance or load testing k6 JMeter or Locust
- 15Accessibility testing WCAG 2.1 508 compliance and security-focused test cases OWASP Top 10 validation
- 16Required Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field or equivalent practical experience
- 17Required 5+ years of experience in software development engineering in test QA automation or related discipline
