Senior Registered Nurse - Gastroenterology Lab
Overview
Own direct patient care in the Gastroenterology Lab at Parkland Health & Hospital System, managing a 10-hour day shift four days a week. Coordinate a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, patient-centered care for diverse GI procedures. Work with RN, BLS, and ACLS certifications in a high-acuity hospital setting. This role stands out through its focus on sedation administration, continuous patient monitoring, and serving as a preceptor and charge nurse.
What You'll Do8
- 1Assess patients continuously during GI procedures, including vital sign monitoring and ECG interpretation, documenting physiological status in real time.
- 2Administer sedation and analgesia using the six rights of medication safety, managing IV access and emergency resuscitation as needed.
- 3Develop and implement individualized care plans for Gastroenterology Lab patients, coordinating with the healthcare team to prevent complications.
- 4Serve as a Charge Nurse on rotation, directing non-nursing staff and providing direction based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
- 5Precept new nursing staff and students, preparing and conducting at least one in-service educational program per year.
- 6Advocate for patient rights, confidentiality, and cultural preferences, maintaining positive relationships with patients, families, and staff.
- 7Maintain knowledge of infection control, safety, and Universal Protocol, ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
- 8Perform hand-offs at every care transition, using effective communication to ensure continuity and patient safety.
Requirements9
- 12+ years of nursing experience from an accredited school of nursing.
- 2Current RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or a valid Compact RN license.
- 3Current BLS certification from AHA, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.
- 4Current ALS or ACLS certification on hire from an approved provider.
- 5Demonstrated ability to assess patient needs and respond to changes in condition, including ECG changes and vital signs.
- 6Experience with sedation administration and monitoring in a procedural setting.
- 7Proven interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate over an overhead paging system.
- 8Ability to provide direction to non-nursing staff, serve as a preceptor, and rotate as Charge Nurse.
- 9Knowledge of nursing standards and Texas Nurse Practice Act for Gastroenterology Lab care.
