Senior R&D Engineer Structural Heart
Overview
Lead mechanical engineering support for new medical device products at Abbott's SH division. Own development from concept to market release. Direct support personnel and coordinate project activities. Write patents and maintain documentation. Establish networks and guide less experienced staff. Influence middle management on technical solutions. May lead project teams and determine project goals. Exercise judgment to resolve complex problems. Failure to obtain results leads to program delays. Will initiate or maintain schedules. Sets priorities of work assignments.

- 6Write and submit intellectual property patents
- 7Maintain detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development
- 8Investigate and evaluate existing technologies
- 9Review or coordinate vendor activities to support development
- 10Establish and cultivate an extensive network of support
- 11Participate in development of less experienced staff by setting an example, providing guidance and work direction, and offering counsel

Requirements10
- 1Bachelors Degree in related field and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- 2Masters Degree preferred
- 3Minimum 6 years related work experience
- 4Strong understanding of mechanical engineering functional area
- 5Experience with CAD
- 6Experience with GD&T
- 7Wide application of technical principles, practices, and procedures
- 8Knowledge of business unit function and cross group dependencies
- 9Ability to perform in a quality system environment
- 10Sound knowledge of various technical alternatives and their impact
