Senior PostgreSQL DBA for AWS Migration
Overview
You will own the migration of mission-critical databases from on-premises to AWS cloud, managing PostgreSQL environments at scale across both platforms. You will join a team of database experts focused on high availability, performance, and automation. What You'll Do9
- 1Migrate on-premises PostgreSQL databases to AWS RDS or Aurora with minimal downtime
- 2Design and implement high availability architectures using Streaming Replication, Patroni, or pgpool-II
- 3Tune query performance using EXPLAIN ANALYZE, index optimization, and pg_stat_statements
- 4Automate routine database tasks with Ansible or Terraform scripts
- 5Manage backup and recovery using pgBackRest or WAL-E, ensuring RPO and RTO targets
- 6Monitor database health using CloudWatch, Prometheus, or Grafana, and respond to alerts
- 7Secure databases with encryption, role-based access control, and SSL configurations
- 8Support application teams with schema design and query optimization for new features
- 9Document migration procedures and runbooks for operational excellence
Requirements9
- 112+ years of database administration experience, with 5+ years on PostgreSQL
- 2Hands-on experience with AWS services: RDS, Aurora, EC2, S3, IAM, and VPC
- 3Proven track record of migrating on-premises databases to AWS cloud
- 4Expertise in PostgreSQL performance tuning, indexing, and vacuum strategies
- 5Strong knowledge of high availability solutions: Patroni, repmgr, or pg_auto_failover
- 6Fluency in automation using Ansible, Terraform, or Shell scripting
- 7Experience with backup tools like pgBackRest, pg_dump, or Barman
- 8Understanding of security best practices for databases, including SSL and encryption
- 9Ability to work onsite in Oakland, CA and be on employer's W2
