Overview

The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights seeks a Senior Grant Writer to develop grant proposals and manage contracts supporting CHIRLA’s mission. This role oversees grant writing portfolios, leads teams, and strengthens donor relationships while ensuring compliance and efficiency.

What You'll Do11

  • 1Develop in-depth knowledge of CHIRLA’s mission and strategic plan to convey information effectively through proposals and reports
  • 2Increase and diversify grant portfolio by leading prospecting meetings and assigning opportunities to grant writers
  • 3Confirm eligibility for new grants and contracts while leading grant writers toward fundraising goals
  • 4Write compelling grant proposals and reports in collaboration with program and administrative staff
  • 5Maintain organized grant records in electronic and hard copy formats
  • 6Grow relationships with funding prospects through strategic engagement
  • 7Strengthen grant and contract systems to meet deadlines and ensure timely submissions
  • 8Engage with funders, partners, and internal staff to build collaborative relationships
  • 9Assist with full range of fund development activities as requested
  • 10Supervise grant writers and collaborate with Development Coordinator
  • 11Support CHIRLA’s Annual Gala membership drive and other fundraising events

Requirements14

  • 1Bachelor’s degree in related field with five years grant writing experience
  • 2Strong writing skills for private and public funders
  • 3Experience overseeing grant writers
  • 4Proficiency with Word Excel Publisher PowerPoint and other Microsoft Suite applications
  • 5Understanding of philanthropy sector and funding systems
  • 6Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask under pressure
  • 7Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness
  • 8Master’s degree preferred but not required
  • 9Leadership experience in social justice or immigrant rights
  • 10Ability to work in multicultural environments and diverse communities
  • 11High personal integrity and dependability
  • 12Experience with Los Angeles SoCal philanthropic sector
  • 13Familiarity with C4 status and social justice advocacy
  • 14Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building abilities
