What You'll Do8
- 1Provide direct counseling and crisis intervention for students facing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, building trust and resilience from day one.
- 2Conduct psycho-social assessments and develop individualized intervention plans, collaborating with teachers and parents to track progress.
- 3Lead group sessions on topics like social skills, anger management, and grief, adapting to student needs each semester.
- 4Implement school-wide initiatives that promote a positive climate, partnering with staff on anti-bullying and mental health awareness programs.
- 5Consult with community agencies and families to connect students with resources, including food, housing, and mental health services.
- 6Maintain accurate records of services and student progress, ensuring compliance with FERPA and school policies.
- 7Coach parents on parenting skills and communication strategies, empowering them to support their child's academic and emotional growth.
- 8Stay current with best practices in school social work, attending workshops and integrating new evidence-based methods.
Requirements9
- 1Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
- 2Valid state licensure as a School Social Worker (e.g., LMSW or LLMSW).
- 3Temporary or full approval as a school social worker in Michigan.
- 42+ years experience working with children and families in a school setting.
- 5Knowledge of social, emotional, and behavioral issues impacting student success, including trauma-informed care.
- 6Ability to collaborate with school personnel, families, and community agencies.
- 7Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective counseling and consultation.
- 8Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
- 9Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment.
