Sales Associate, Home Improvement Retail
Overview
You will own the sales floor at Busy Beaver Building Centers, delivering expert advice on home improvement projects to customers in Pittsburgh. You'll join a tight-knit team that prioritizes customer service over quotas, backed by 40+ years of neighborhood retail experience. This role blends product knowledge with problem-solving, offering flexible schedules across days, nights, and weekends. You'll receive hands-on training in DIY techniques, setting you apart in a fast-paced retail environment.
What You'll Do8
- 1Greet customers with enthusiasm, identify their project needs, and recommend building materials and tools from our in-stock inventory.
- 2Provide accurate product knowledge on lumber, paint, fasteners, and power tools, helping customers complete DIY projects successfully.
- 3Resolve customer complaints with patience and tact, ensuring a memorable shopping experience that drives word-of-mouth referrals.
- 4Maintain awareness of current sales and promotions, upselling and cross-selling to increase average transaction value.
- 5Keep shelves stocked and merchandise organized, following planograms and visual standards to create an easy-to-shop store.
- 6Process transactions accurately at the POS system, handling cash and card payments with integrity.
- 7Assist in receiving and unloading shipments, checking inventory levels and labeling products as needed.
- 8Participate in monthly inventory counts and cycle counts, ensuring data accuracy in our inventory management system.
Requirements7
- 11+ year of retail sales or customer service experience, ideally in home improvement or DIY sectors.
- 2High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in construction or trades is a plus.
- 3Open availability for dayshifts, nightshifts, weekdays, and weekends, with 20-32 hours per week.
- 4Proven communication skills and a friendly, upbeat personality to engage customers and team members.
- 5Ability to lift 50+ pounds and stand for 8-hour shifts, with bending and kneeling as needed.
- 6Basic math skills and computer literacy for using POS and inventory software.
- 7Commitment to reliability and trustworthiness, with a positive attitude toward training and development.
