Overview
Own the front-of-store experience at Bethesda Market & Deli, processing transactions and supporting daily operations for a high-volume neighborhood market. You will be the primary point of contact for customers, managing their journey from greeting to checkout while ensuring shelves stay stocked and displays stay compelling. Collaborating with a small team, you will handle sales, inventory checks, and product demos across a range of grocery and deli items. What You'll Do9
- 1Greet customers at the door and on the floor, answering product questions and guiding them to the right aisle.
- 2Operate the POS system to ring up sales, process payments, and issue receipts with speed and accuracy.
- 3Stock shelves, rotate perishables, and build displays that highlight seasonal items and weekly specials.
- 4Run the cash drawer, counting in and out, and reconcile daily totals against system records.
- 5Suggest add-on items like deli sides or bakery treats during checkout to lift average basket size.
- 6Answer the phone, take order inquiries, and set aside items for pickup per store policy.
- 7Monitor inventory levels on the floor and in the back, flagging low-stock items to the manager.
- 8Help with product demos on weekends, preparing samples and talking up features and benefits.
- 9Step in to supervise the floor during rushes, assigning tasks and keeping the line moving smoothly.
Requirements7
- 11+ years in retail, cashiering, or a customer-facing role preferred but not required.
- 2Basic math skills for handling cash, making change, and running the register accurately.
- 3Familiarity with POS systems, retail math, and merchandising basics is a plus.
- 4Clear communication skills, with bilingual ability (Spanish/English) as an advantage.
- 5Comfort with physical duties: standing for full shifts, lifting up to 30 lbs, and moving stock.
- 6Professional phone etiquette for handling inbound calls and customer questions.
- 7Leadership potential or prior supervisory experience earns fast-track consideration.
