Registered Nurse OR - Off Shift Team at Mercy Medical Center
Overview
You'll own surgical care for patients in a 15-hybrid OR across Orthopedics, Neuro, General, ENT/Plastics, and Open Heart. You'll join a close-knit specialty team at Mercy Cedar Rapids, a 120+ year independent health system, with 3-12 hour shifts and no weekday call. We welcome new grads and experienced nurses with a hands-on orientation and mentorship, plus up to a $15,000 sign-on bonus.
What You'll Do10
- 1Assess, plan, and implement patient care in the OR, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- 2Circulate for surgeries, maintaining sterile technique and anticipating surgeon needs.
- 3Communicate patient status at handoffs, collaborating with the surgical team.
- 4Respond to emergencies within scope of practice, acting on life-threatening conditions.
- 5Educate patients and families on perioperative care.
- 6Direct licensed and non-licensed personnel in patient care assignments.
- 7Support quick room turnover by pulling supplies for cases and managing inventory.
- 8Serve as a role model for new staff, fostering a healthy work environment.
- 9Adhere to safety protocols, reporting any unsafe conditions.
- 10Maintain competency in unit-specific skills, including ACLS within 6 months.
Requirements8
- 1Current RN license in Iowa or compact state.
- 2BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- 3OR experience preferred; new grads welcome.
- 4Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred.
- 5ACLS or obtain within 6 months based on specialty team.
- 6Ability to work 3-12 hour shifts with rotating holidays and weekend call.
- 7Demonstrate critical thinking and assessment skills in acute care.
- 8Completion of Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training.
