What You'll Do7

  • 1Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care using the nursing process in accordance with physician orders and policies.
  • 2Identify and remove discharge barriers by partnering with charge nurses and case management teams.
  • 3Coordinate patient transport and facilitate key meetings to expedite safe discharges.
  • 4Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers, acting as team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
  • 5Monitor and correct environmental safety issues, including equipment and material resources.
  • 6Act as preceptor, supporting development of staff and formal learners.
  • 7Participate in performance improvement activities and identify clinical or operational opportunities.

Requirements9

  • 12+ years of appropriate clinical experience required.
  • 2Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina required.
  • 3BLS certification required.
  • 4Graduation from an accredited BSN program required (or enrolled within 2 years of start, per Duke policy).
  • 5Knowledge of the nursing process and scope of RN, LPN, and unlicensed staff.
  • 6Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients.
  • 7Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
  • 8Competent in BLS and other specialized life support as required by work area.
  • 9Ability to use computer and learn new software programs for documentation.
