You will own the full prior authorization lifecycle for medications, referrals, and in-house procedures at Foothills Neurology, a private practice in Phoenix processing hundreds of requests monthly. You will work onsite with a team of 5 support staff, collaborating with providers, clinical staff, and billing to clear every authorization. This role centers on Athena proficiency and HIPAA compliance, with direct impact on patient care. What You'll Do9
- 1Process prior authorizations for medications, specialist referrals, and in-house procedures using Athena.
- 2Review and obtain referrals and authorizations for office visits, verifying insurance requirements.
- 3Manage the daily inbox, processing documents within 24 hours.
- 4Review medical records to confirm insurance requirements are met before submission.
- 5Submit requests to insurance companies and follow up until resolution.
- 6Communicate approval and denial updates to providers, patients, and staff.
- 7Maintain organized records of all authorization activities in Athena.
- 8Perform quality checks on team output and identify process gaps.
- 9Collaborate with providers, clinical staff, and billing to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Requirements9
- 13+ years of experience in prior authorizations, referrals, or a related medical office role.
- 2Knowledge of insurance processes and medical terminology.
- 3Experience with Athena is required.
- 4High School Diploma or GED.
- 5Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.
- 6Strong multitasking and organizational skills.
